All major purchases and construction projects are funded out of the MSD Capital Budget.  Capital expenditures include such things as building sewer projects, major equipment purchases and most items that cost over $100,000.  Projects in the Capital Budget are proposed by staff, get approved to be funded to start in a certain fiscal year and then continue until the project is completed.  Often time projects will be active for many years, depending on their size and complexity.

This section of OpenMSD presents a different view of the cost expended by MSD for capital projects as it looks at each capital project and all of the costs associated with projects regardless of the year the cost was expended.  In contrast, the Capital Expenditure section of OpenMSD details the costs expended in various areas but by fiscal year.  Capital projects are accessible by the Project Type (such as collectors, interceptors, treatment plant related, etc); Project Name (the actual project name/title used throughout the life of the project); or a Project Number (each project is assigned a project number, which is the Budget ID of the project in the Capital Budget).  When any of these entry points are used, you can drill down into greater detail by clicking on the link provided.  Eventually you will get to Cost Elements (such as design, inspection, construction, etc) that make up the project which is the lowest level in this section.
